I love that God is the helper of parents who rely on Him and call on Him. There have been so many times when I’ve sensed that something wasn’t right with Joshua, that he was acting suspicious. I always prayed that God would bring to light any bad thing he was doing. And God always did!
How encouraging that tonight Joshua saw God do the same thing for his friend, Jonathan. They were going to drive to Indianola, but for whatever reason Jonathan lied to his parents and said they were going to a friend’s house in town. Not surprisingly the pastor had preached on honoring one’s mother and father last weekend (not surprising because it was Mother’s Day.) When they took off this evening, Josh got on Jon’s case about how he was supposed to be honoring his mother and father. While Jon agreed, he was apparently offering lip service only because they still headed to Indianola.
But the truck broke down halfway there.
What a dilemma. Jon couldn’t really call his parents because he wasn’t where he said he’d be. They tried several things, called their youth leader and sought his advice, all to no avail – the truck would not start. After an hour and a half, Jon finally called his parents. His dad came out to pick them up, scolding Jon for not being where he was supposed to. While his dad was dealing with the tow truck, Jon climbed into the Jeep with Josh and turned on the radio. What should they hear but a pastor preaching on, you guessed it, honoring yor mother and father!
We have a mighty and awesome God, capable of speaking into existence an entire universe. And yet He cares about us so much that He’ll stop us in our tracks to keep us from sin. And He promises that we’re not alone. So as parents, when we can’t always be with our grown kids, we know the One who is. Very cool.

We attended the Professional Bull Riding performance this past weekend. What a hoot! I thoroughly enjoyed it and would do it again. The only bad part of the evening would be the very loud people behind us who talked through the whole performance (because it is a performance – it’s not just bull riding at these events) making it next to impossible for me to hear what the announcer and others were saying.
As an interesting side note: as we were moving our way through the arena to find our seats, my husband made the comment, “Look, honey. You’re the only one here not showing cleavage.” Hmm… I was glad he noticed. Although he enjoys looking at scantily clad young women (Hooters calendar), I decided to take it as a compliment. And, of course, I told him that I reveal my cleavage to only one person. 😉
