My Prayer Partner

Have you ever been SO excited about what God’s doing, that you just had to tell someone?

Several months ago I was approached by a friend, Kerri,  who felt that God was leading her to seek me out as a prayer partner.
A what? I’ve been involved in many Bible study groups where we prayed together and I’ve prayed with other individuals at various times, but a one-on-one continuous prayer relationship? This was a new concept to me. I felt so humbled and so honored that God would choose me to be a part of this. Little did I know the incredible things that would take place as a result of this relationship.
Without even catching up to date on all the exciting things in the past months, I will simply share what happened tonight.

The first thing Kerri did was read the verses in Ephesians 3:14-21, reciting Paul’s prayer for the believers in Ephesus. She said that she’s begun praying that prayer for herself. I then shared with her that I had printed those very verses off on some neon cardstock, framed them and put them on the wall in my new prayer room. This way I can pray that exact prayer for myself as well as other believers without searching for it in my Bible. Coincidence that God would put these verses on both our hearts? I don’t believe in coincidences. I do, however, believe it’s the most awesome thing in the world that a God so huge he could create our entire universe has any desire to speak personally to me!! What a rush!

I have been giving our kids (ones who are still at home, obviously) a blessing each night before bed for probably 14 or 15 years. This was the result of a Bible radio program I’d heard many, many year ago that led me to go one step further and buy the book, The Family Blessing. It has been a wonderful tradition, a heritage that I’m sure will continue on through at least my son’s family (to be). During an email correspondence with Kerri this past week, I briefly mentioned the book because Josh has borrowed it and is reading it now for himself. Well, it turns out she heard the same radio program this week (14 years later — can it possibly be the same program?!), and she had written down the very blessing that we used for many years: “The Lord bless you and keep you, the Lord make his face shine upon you and be gracious unto you, the Lord lift up his countenance upon you and give you peace.”  (Numbers 6:24-27). Upon hearing the program, Kerri decided she would like to buy the book eventually, but NO NEED! I already have a copy she can borrow.
Again, coincidence?

It has been incredible to see God answer so many of our prayers the last several weeks, and if I weren’t so tired I’d have to share some of it. I will simply leave with a note about what a privilege and a thrill it is to be able to fight spiritual battles on my knees. I want to pray like the disciples did in Acts 4 after Peter and James had been threatened by the priest and the Sadducees. “‘Now, Lord, consider their threats and enable your servants to speak your word with great boldness. Stretch out your hand to heal and  perform miraculous signs and wonders through the name of your holy servant Jesus.’ After they prayed, the place where they were meeting was shaken. And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and spoke the word of God boldly.” (verses 29-31).

Wow. I want to cause the earth to shake with my prayers. I want to speak the word of God boldly.

Glory be to God!
