How can God reserve glory for Himself in our circumstances?
For Gideon, He reduced the number of men that would go into battle with him against the Midianites, an army of about 135,000 men (from Judges 8:10). Gideon started out with 32,000 men, and God whittled it down to 300.
300 men against an army of 135,000. That makes a powerful statement.
God stated in Judges 7:3, “Israel would boast against me, ‘My own strength has saved me.’”
So, how does God reserve glory for Himself in my circumstances? He places a call on me to deliver a message and coordinate a craft with 120 women, and then He packs my schedule with unforeseen obstacles. As if that’s not challenging enough, He takes the message I planned to work on and changes it. In order to complete this seemingly imposible task, He wakes me at 3:30 am and helps me write up the message. Two nights in a row.
There’s more. He places those in my path who can help me. Most notably, my husband, who does not know Jesus yet. He has offered to create a PowerPoint presentation with my notes while I am at work.
This actually gives me a boost in the hope of finishing my book. I’ve struggled with working on the revision for months now as I face the mountains in my life: running two Bible study groups, working full time, and still making time to be with my husband.
In my heart, I had pretty much resigned myself to not finishing it until I am able to semi-retire from my job in a couple of years. But now… maybe. Just maybe God can accomplish this monumental task in spite of all these commitments in my schedule. So that He can get the glory.
I serve an amazing God!
